Tritton AX Pro 5.1 headphones
Surround headphones were almost always gimmicky … plug in this USB gizmo for surround sound, which was really just a USB soundcard with simulated stereo, piped out through one speaker per ear. So, I had to rely on my 5.1 Digital Stereo to create the proper soundfield. Unfortunately this limited my ability simply due to the volume levels required for immersion. I had to turn it down at night.
To the rescue, Tritton AX Pro 5.1 headphones. The Trittons have four (4) speakers per ear cup which coincide with a 5.1 channels. Front, Center, Rear and Subwoofer. How do they pull this off ? With a wire… a big thick wire. The cord supplies all the signal required for 5.1 channels. There are two control interfaces. A Processor that sits closest to your stereo accepts inputs from Xbox 360, PS3, your Stereo or your PC. Digital Optical input is the best way to go, but there are several adapter cables included that allows you to connect to practically any sound component. The processor also allows you to adjust time-delay and enable dynamic compression as well as volume.
Near the headphones themselves there is a control fob for adjusting volumes, mute and the levels of the indivdual channels. There is a mic input as well for use with Xbox Live, that requires a jumper cable from the fob to your xbox controller.
The sound is amazing… while a headphone in this price range will probably never give BOSE a run for their money … the surround is great and voice communications online works fantastic as well, never again will you have to turn down your game to chat to your party.
Tritton AX Pro’s are a great gift for your favorite gamer and I strongly suggest you get these under the tree as soon as possible.
